Navigating the wonderful world of Ed Fairburn. This series of work investigated how images are hidden in maps and they can be seen and brought to the surface. He created soulful images predominantly of faces, by using old maps, tracing lines to uncover images hiding within.
“The process of plotting my portraits involves drafting
particular details first, as a kind of ‘framework’ – but because there’s so
much going on already (lines and patterns everywhere) I often lose my outlines
– the irony of getting lost on a map amuses me every time this happens.”
I love this recurring theme of getting lost within a map,
